My Cooking Exploits

I have started cooking(read boiling stuff) at home. To start with I have purchased an LPG stove with a 2 kg cylinder, four small containers for salt, pepper, chilli powder and chat masala, spoons, a steel vessel and a steel dish. I already had a knife at home. And I have made a few dishes at home. The list includes roasted corn, Independence Day Special, boiled potatoes with salt, chilli, chat masala and lemon, Maggi:-) and sprouted beans with a tinge of lemon, chilli, salt and chat masala(tastes good). I love the fresh lime juice so much that I have tried making it in a restaurant when the waiter was not around and for the past two days I have been preparing it at my work desk in office. But then cooking is not always fun. Firstly, I cut my finger while chopping the vegetables. Then, I found a worm hiding under a cauliflower lobe and am not sure how many of them I could not find. Boiling eggs was a disappointment. My steel vessel was small and when the water boiled it overflowed on the burner and I could not find any way to prevent that from happening. The eggs were raw when I broke open the shells. I am looking forward for my October trip to home. The menu card is sure going to grow after that and I will learn dishes that are more difficult. But in the mean time, you can post your easy to make recipes in the comments section or mail them to me.

Hey Vinayak. Thanks. Yeah. I am not going to buy Maggi again:-)

Keshi: Ah! How can you throw the entire vege? If I did that, besides hurting my wallet, i would also end up not eating anything at all. Till date, I have not seen a cauliflower in Bangalore without a worm :)
Yeah cooking is interesting. The stupid things that I make taste good, just because I am making them!

Gr8 that u started cooking!!! Its so much fun actually...
Now that u have asked for a easy to make stuff...would like to share what i do :)

Take some oil in a pan.heat it a little.Put some mustard( i think its called mustard... well its -raai ), some jeera, little turmeric powder... and just let it make a little popping sound... and then u add the vegetables...mix them... Add salt and mirchi powder...Mix it well... And let it cook for a while...And ur sabzi is done.. without much effort..

Dunno if this was simple enough.. but it surely works :)

lol Neel I cant cook the vege after seeing a worm in it...my mum scolds me for being silly but I cant do it...hehehe...

Besides here's a simple recipe, try it sometime...but I dun hold responsibilty for any accidents while cooking ok :)

Heat some Olive Oil in a pan...put some finely chopped onions, chopped garlic, red chillies, mustard seeds, curry leaves and temper for like 3mins (until the onion is light brown)...add boiled potato (chopped) into it...add some salt and pepper and cook for abt 15min (since the potatoes pre-boiled u dun need much time to cook it). U get a nice potato fried dish which can be eaten with rice or bread :)

Now dun cut ur fingers or burn ur hands...hehehe.

Good to see you have started cooking :) I was also planning to put a post on my cooking exploits, maybe next week. BTW I have an advantage over you 'cause I get to experiment on my hubby :-D

Instead of a recipe, I'll give you a website -> Bawarchi

You can search for any recipe and try out if its simple for you. Check out Alu tikki, thats nice :)

Art : Thanks a lot. Till now I have not prepared anything that contains oil. I am a bit unsure about the quantity of oil to put( i will put as less as possible). I will try it sometime Art and will tell you how it tasted!

Keshi : Yeah! No blame on you for the accidents :-). Sounds as tasty as the previous one. Will try it. Possibly over the weekend(and with care)

Hul : Somehow, I am not that much fan of the bissibelle available at our company food courts. Have you tried it at Udipi Gardens at BTM? Tasted good.

Karen : Never heard that. Just googled that. National dish of Barbados. Has to be exotic!

Deeps : Ah! So your husband is the guniea pig :-) . Checked out the site. Nice site. I found a 'tri-coloured salad'http://food.sify.com/recipe.php?id=13260075&cid=
, but it was different from the one I prepare at home
